Versatile Spotlight/lantern Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5Average rating of 5/5
Got this light over a month ago. It's a better version of the one with fluorescent bulb, though both list for the same price. The reason I say it's better is that its 24 LED array puts out a decent amount of light, maybe not quite as bright as the fluorescent, but with a couple of important advantages. 1) It's supposed to have a 16 hour run time instead of 3--quite a difference. 2) LEDs should last much longer than fluorescent bulbs in lanterns, never needing replacement. I hope Wagan put good ones in this light; some do give out much sooner than the claimed 100,000 life. The ones in this light certainly look good, all with the same brightness and color temp, a cool white.

The halogen bulb must be well positioned in the reflector; it makes a nice, tight beam that reaches a good distance. It has a run time of about half an hour, so it's good that the LEDs make a decent beam, a semi-flood that lights well to about 100 feet.

The light weighs 3 pounds, but the handle is quite comfortable. When held in the forward position, the spotlight balances near horizontal. If you reverse your grip, the spotlight head at the back is heavier and the light holds at about 45 degrees, pointing the bottom-placed LEDs toward the ground and foward, well lighting the way for walking. The grip seems designed for holding either way.

Additionally, a small LED in the handle puts out a decent spot of light without lighting a large area, good for looking at a map or reading without disturbing others. During an extended power outage, it would be good to use without running the battery down for days. The compass in the handle is only 1/2" in diameter, works, and doesn't seem affected by metal in the main part of the lantern.

There's no warning to disconnect the charger after a certain amount of time to prevent overcharging and the charge does seem to be well regulated. It's good to keep the battery charged as running low can adversely affect its life. Trying to find a replacement battery at a decent price these days could be problematic.

The bottom line: It's a good, sturdy light with 3 lighting/power options, making it quite versatile.
