Swagman XC-4 Cross-Country 4-Bike Hitch Mount Rack (2-Inch Receiver Hitch) customer reviews:

GREAT WELL-THOUGHT DESIGN I bought a small SUV, 2009 Mitsu Outlander so I could take the kids outdoors more often. We have three mountain bikes that are all different in size and geometry. I spent three weeks researching for a Bike Hitch mount and boy, glad that I did! I wanted to get a conventional hanging bike rack such as the Thule and Yakima versions but then realized not only is the loading of the bikes cumbersome, it also blocks the tail lights and rear-view.
This Swagman was easy to assemble, about 30 minutes and comes with a threaded lock. I would still advise to get a more secure lock for about 15 bucks. Once assembled, the three bikes were easy to load and the center of gravity was much better than the conventional hanging racks. The bikes also stayed in place during sharp turns and bumps. Note to all, if this is the first time you will have a bike rack, slow down on uneven driveways since it will scrape! It happened to us in the first day! Overall kudos to Swagman for a good well-thought design.
I highly recommend this.
great carrier for distances We just finished with a trip to visit family and it worked great. Around 500 miles each way.
It took about an hour to get it adjusted so I could get all 4 bikes on at once. After that, everything was set and I loaded 4 bikes in 10-15 minutes. I'm sure I'll get even better.
The only improvement they could make would be to have two posts with more space. The middle 2 bikes fit really tight so you have to put them in just right. It was harder because my son has a BMX style bike and our daughter has a similar bike with 16" (I believe) wheels. Those fall through the mounts, but it stays in there securely anyway.
My arms don't lock in the down position very easily, but I only use that for storage so I'm not worried. I'd probably buy it again, especially for the price.
Very Solid Bike Rack I was looking for a good solid bike rack to support three expensive mountain
bikes. one full suspension and two hard tails. for a two thousand mile trip.
The rack was very easy to assemble and supported our bikes without leaving a
mark on anything and I used my Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD to haul them, this truck
has a pretty heavy suspension system. The draw tight hitch bolt works like a champ
to draw the hitch tight and reduce unwanted movement and everything goes on and off smoothly once set for each bike. Thought I wanted to spend the money for the
Thule, but I'm glad a didn't and saved about $325.00. I'm very happy with my
purchase.
Great rack for 4 bikes I love this rack. I've had it for over a year now and it is so easy to load that we take more bike trips. We have an odd assortment of sizes and styles - kids bikes, recumbent, road and they are all easy to fit without adapters or stress. I called for help with assembly and the manufacturer was great over the phone. Now that it is together there are no hassles.
The rack is pretty heavy so be prepared. We have a little rust on the metal parts but I live in MN and everything here rusts.
If you carry more than two bikes this is a definite yes.
PURE JUNK, FELL APART, DAMAGED MY BIKES This rack is a piece of junk. Within 1,000 miles, a part has fallen off, the pin bent, the frame sagged, and has rubbed my $2,000 mountain bike frame down to the aluminum. DO NOT BUY THIS RACK.
For the initial journey, I put only three bikes on it for a long trip. The weight of the bikes was well below the max allowed. After my first leg, I pulled over to notice the rack sagged significantly. So much so, I removed all bikes to ensure the rack was not failing. I found the pin bent only after 400 miles! As my trip went on, the rack continued to disintegrate. The rubber frame protector holding the frame to my bike fell off (don't ask me how as it was snuggly fitted to my oversized mountain bike frame). The metal to metal rubbing destroyed my paint and rubbed through my hydraulic brake line. My kids' bikes were also rubbed, dented, and scratched.
Buy any other rack but this one. I personally will return to a roof rack for all my bikes.
