K&N HP-1002 Oil Filter Description
|
Originally developed for demanding auto race applications, our premium oil filter is rapidly becoming a favorite among consumers for its durability and easy removal. We've changed oil filters and several of our product development technicians are sportsman class drag racers. They insisted we offer an oil filter that corrected the headaches they experienced over the years changing oil filters. We have all been there: Whether it's remembering where that disappearing canister tool is; or having oil leak all over your garage and yourself; or finally giving up and pounding a screwdriver through the filter just to get if off. Each of our automotive and marine oil filters comes with a 1 nut welded to the top of the canister so they can be easily wrenched-off with a standard tool. Our motorcycle and ATV oil filters come with a 17 mm nut. Our oil filters use resin impregnated cellulose filter media. This allows for higher flow rates while providing outstanding filtration. High filter flow rates are important in racing vehicles where heavier grade oil is used and the oil is pumped much faster than in a standard vehicle. When the engine is circulating oil at high GPM rates, the high-flow oil filter helps reduce the loss of pressure through the filtering process. To satisfy the demands of racers, our oil filter has many features over and above the requirements of most vehicles. We use thicker canister walls for extra strength and durability which reduces the risk of damage from loose rocks and debris. The heavy-duty construction will withstand higher oil pressures found only in racing environments without bursting. The drilled hole on the nut is for a safety wire attachment. Required for many types of racing, the safety wire prevents blown oil filters from falling on the track and representing a hazard to other race vehicles. This extra engineering offers peace of mind for consumers who want only the best.

so far so good i was happy with the service and condition of the the filter it fit perfect we will see
Great Filter, Easy to Remove 2000 Dodge Stratus
I don't have any scientific results that say this filter has any better performance than other filters I've used on my car but I haven't had any problems either.
The main thing I like about this filter is the nut on it that makes removal a breeze. Putting filters on my car for hand tightness is easy but I find my car can be difficult to remove with spacing around the filter area if the filter sticks at all. Being at the bottom gives easy access to tools to just break it loose and then continue by hand.
One of the best filters on the market Please don't review this filter unless you have some knowledge of what you are reviewing or have had time to fairly review the product whether good or bad. I love this filters. They do a very nice job of filtering the oil especially for those of us using full synthetic oil and going longer intervals between changes. These filters are well constructed and have a thicker outer case which is great for those that may use them in trucks or vehicles going off road. They contain synthetic media inside which gives them the ability to give great filtration while still maintaining a high flow rate. That is critical in an oil filter as you want contaminants to be filtered out but you also don't want the filter restricting the flow of oil through the motor. These filters also have both an anti-drain back valve and a bypass valve to protect your engine. Without being too technical oil filters and oil are critical to the long life of your engine. If you plan on keeping your car or truck don't go cheap on these and you may save yourself some very expensive repairs in the long run. Read about the problems people have had with some VW/Audi, Toyota & Chrysler engines with oil sludge. Using quality filters and a high quality synthetic oil from day 1 could have prevented many of these sludge failures that cost the owners of these vehicles thousands of dollars. I have been using K&N oil filters in my vehicles for years and have never had a problem. Current owner of a Ford F150 & a Lexus GS430 and both use these filters.
Oh and as a footnote these filters are the same internally as the Mobil 1 Extended Performance filters. I think the Mobil 1 branding does cost a little more as they are the recommended filter to go along with the Mobil 1 extended performance oil. Only difference is the K&N case I think is a little thicker and the Mobile 1 branded filter doesn't come with the nut at the top of the filter. The internals are the same Champion Labs makes them. As an alternative the Wix filters are also very good and they come under Napa & Napa Gold branding from Napa Auto Parts stores. I have been very impressed with the Napa Gold Wix filters.
World's Fastest lawnmower & fastest production 4 door sedan use this filter Works great. Same K&N filter fits my 2000 Lexus GS400 v8 and my 2000 Dixie (world's fastest lawnmower) Chopper.
Doesn't fit Chrysler Town & Country Touring K&N offers excellent oil filters and I use them on my truck. However, I searched Amazon to find which model would fit my Chrysler Town & Country Touring. They pointed me toward this filter. If you own this vehicle, it actually takes the 1017 filter. These are EXCELLENT filters...this review is only to let you know that it doesn't fit this van. To Amazon's credit though, they did give me a full refund plus reimbursed my shipping to send it back since it was their fault. Amazon has first class service.
