Great item but...
Item works great but company could have given better instruction and or tips on its proper use. Sometimes rubber gasket or "O" ring does not seat properly and you will be pumping the number of times that are indicated but not realizing it is not pressuring correctly. Vacuum is created when pumping and is of course very important for units operation. Once vacuum is set up the unit works excellent and is of high quality construction. I would still recommend this unit for people who like to change trans fluid and for removing fluid from other equipment.
Excellent tool that works as advertised
I purchased this tool so I could change my ATF fluid without having to drop the pan. I used to use a Mityvac hand vacuum pump to do this, but it didn't have any capacity and the fluid always found its way into the hand pump. Using it was so easy I'm going to do my oil changes with it from now on. I made one mistake when assembling the Topside - I put one of the gaskets on the inside of the cap instead of on the rim of the spout. Once I positioned the gasket correctly, it worked beautifully. With a vacuum from about 40 strokes of the pump, it sucked the fluid out at a rate of about 1 qt per 5 minutes.

Great tool if you are patient. if your oil is too hot or too cold it will not empty the oil properly. too cold it will not flow too hot the hose will collapse. you also have to fish around to find the bottom to find all the oil. if you don't read the instructions and assemble the caps improperly you will lose suction and it won't work read the directions and put the rubber seals where they belong between the rim of the can and the cap. if the hoses were stiffer and heat resistant there would be less fuss and muss. I would recommend that you replace the hoses with those which are meant for vacuum pressure and heat resistance.
WOrks very well, easy to use, no drips or mess
I used this "oil changer" to change the oil in my boat (twin jet engines). Having never changed oil before (or used an oil pump before), I can say that this item works very well. Couple of hand pumps, and the oil quickly and cleanly transferred from the oil reservoir in the engine directly into the containment unit. I collected over a gallon of used motor oil total from both engines and there's liquid storage volume to spare. hose fittings, connections, and seals all do not leak and it was very reassuring as i did this within the interior of my clean white boat.
Assembly of the unit was a breeze and the directions for assembly are very explicit. Other reviewers who left negative feedback probably didn't assemble correctly. you have to be a moron not to be able to put this thing together (does not require any tools).
transferring the oil from the collection unit into a recycling container was also easy, and not messy.
Hopefully the long-term durability of this thing is as good as its initial performance. Overall i am very pleased with the performance of this product. Highly recommend.
Great Buy for the Money
The Topsider does the job. Easy to put together and easy to use. The only con is that if the engine oil is warm/hot the tube will collapse slowing the flow of the oil. Takes about 30 minutes to extract 8 quarts of oil out of my MB ML320. Great buy for the money!! It gets the job done.
